S.T.A.P.E.
Welcome to the "Secretariado Técnico dos Assuntos para o Processo Eleitoral - STAPE" a department of the Ministry of Internal Administration, responsible for electoral management. The core functions and objectives of this Secretariat (EMB - electoral management body) are the organization of elections, referendums and voter registration.
Emphasis should be placed on juridical, logistic and financial support to the intervening bodies in the electoral process - Local Authorities / Voter Registration Committees, Municipalities, Civil Governors, Republic Ministers and Regional Government departments, the provisional counting of votes, the recording of the locally elected individuals and the conducting of electoral studies, the payment of the allocated broadcasting time for political parties and candidates.
We would also like to point out the participation in international networks (regional and global) as well as the assistance and cooperation activities, in areas such as voter registration and organization of multiparty elections, especially in the Portuguese speaking African countries and also in East Timor.
STAPE's presence on the Web goals are:
- improve and diversify the communication procedures and build innovations through sustained sharing of information, especially with the voter registration committees, municipalities and other participant entities in election administration;
- implement an easily accessible from abroad information window that provides information about the Portuguese electoral laws and statistics;
- take advantage of the currently available telecommunications capabilities to reduce the bureaucracy in the provision of the information to STAPE;
- obtain key advantages in the organization, operation and redesign of the information technologies currently being used in the Secretariat.
